Wednesday

The Discovery Plus Saf-T Fun Fair is Dec. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Discovery Plus Academy in Pima. Holiday safety booths will be put on by various organizations and will include fire trucks, emergency vehicles, Smokey the Bear and much more. There will also be games, contests, door prizes, a bake sale and a craft and rummage sale. The entrance fee is $1 for adults, 50 cents for students and free for children under the age of 5. Games are 25 cents each or five for $1 and contest entries vary per contest.

Potluck: The Graham County Senior Citizens Center will host a Christmas potluck at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 15. Dinner will be provided. Bring a dessert if you want one. Carry-outs are $4 per plate.

Fines Forgiveness Month: The Safford City-Graham County Library is celebrating Fines Forgiveness Month from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31. Bring back your overdue library books and cans of food to donate to the food bank, and your past fines will be forgiven. Call the library at 428-1531 with questions.

Thatcher Food Bank will distribute food at the ballpark near the Thatcher Cemetery from 11 to 12:30 p.m. today. Food is distributed the second Wednesday of each month.

The Safford Lions Club meets at noon Wednesday at the China Taste restaurant. Visitors are welcome.

Thursday

The Graham County Chamber of Commerce invites businesses and citizens to a reception honoring Ron Jacobson and John Bryce. The special event is Dec. 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Graham County General Services Building at 921 Thatcher Blvd. in Safford. This community reception provides the opportunity to spend time saying goodbye and meeting the new managers.

Bingo is every Thursday and Friday night at the Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3481 W. 8th Street in Thatcher. Games start at 7:45 p.m.; doors open 5:30 p.m. There is a $1,000 coverall jackpot. Fifty-four numbers or less pays $1,000 with a $100 consolation prize. Smoking and nonsmoking rooms are available. Come early for the best seating. No one under the age of 18 is allowed on bingo nights. Candy, popcorn and soft drinks are only 50 cents. For information call John Mugridge at 428-1021.

Saturday

"Christmas Spectacular." The Safford Dance Academy will hold its annual Christmas recital, "Christmas Spectacular," on Dec. 18 at the Eastern Arizona College Fine Arts Auditorium. The junior show is 3 p.m., and the senior show is 7 p.m. For tickets or information call 428-2661 or 348-3246.

The Sons of the American Legion will host a chicken-fried steak dinner on Dec. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post #32. The cost is $7 per plate. A dance will follow.

Christmas party: The Solomon Lopez/Hernandez Post 95 Sons of the American Legion and Auxiliary Christmas party is Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. The post will furnish the main dish; auxiliary members will bring side dishes. Bring a guest and a gift under $5 for the gift exchange.

The third annual B-Town Christmas celebration and happy holiday giveaway is Dec. 18 at the Eric Rope Sr. residence. There will be Christmas candy bags, four bikes raffled off, toys for children, free Christmas T-shirts and a horseshoe tournament. The cost for the tournament is $10 per person and awards include a pullover, sweatshirt and T-shirt. For more information call (928) 475-4492.

The Odd Fellows sponsor breakfast every Saturday morning from 7:30 to 9:30 at 302 7th Street in Safford. Breakfast consists of either biscuits and gravy or pancakes and bottomless cups of coffee. The cost is $2 with all proceeds going to the Odd Fellows toy drive. Contact Jim Elwood for more information.

Breakfast with Santa is at the Century Room on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. for $4 per customer.

Sunday

Squadron 103 of the Safford Civil Air Patrol meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arizona Army National Guard Armory. For more information call 428-4739.

"The Star of Bethelem," a holiday film, will be shown on Dec. 17 and 18 at 6 p.m. at Discovery Park. The film will present many different astronomical events that could have accounted for the magnificent Star of Bethlehem. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children. Those under the age of 6 are free. The fee includes: the Christmas Star program and refreshments, a trip through the interactive space galleriess and a viewing through the large 20-inch telescope. The space shuttle is available for an additional $6 fee. The train will run Saturday night from 4 - 6 p.m. for a $3 fee.

Bingo: Every Sunday (except Easter) the Swift-Murphy Post 32 American Legion in Safford hosts progressive bingo. One number is added each month to win the final game and jackpot of $1,000. Numbers are currently at 54 numbers. Hamburgers and snacks are sold. The game is open to the public and cost varies on the number of cards played. Proceeds benefit the American Legion Veterans' programs, scholarship fund and other projects. For information contact Tom or Harriet Colvin at 485-9319.

Monday

The Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary board members: will meet Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. in the hospital cafeteria.
