Sunday

Thatcher Schools is accepting applications for open enrollment for the second semester for grades with availability. Applications can be obtained at the District Office at 3490 W. Main Street in Thatcher, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Offices will be closed on Dec. 24 and 31.

The Graham County Health Department provides many free services, including weekly vaccination clinics for all children ages 0-18, family planning (birth control) clinics, pregnancy testing, confidential HIV and STD testing and counseling and the Well Woman Program, which provides Pap smears and mammograms for qualifying women ages 40-64 years. There is no charge for any of these services and all are private and confidential. For more information or to make an appointment call 428-0110.

Squadron 103 of the Safford Civil Air Patrol meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arizona Army National Guard Armory. For more information call 428-4739.

Bingo: Every Sunday (except Easter) the Swift-Murphy Post 32 American Legion in Safford hosts progressive bingo. One number is added each month to win the final game and jackpot of $1,000. Numbers are currently at 54 numbers. Hamburgers and snacks are sold. The game is open to the public and cost varies on the number of cards played. Proceeds benefit the American Legion Veterans' programs, scholarship fund and other projects. For information contact Tom or Harriet Colvin at 485-9319.

Monday

Monday Nite Tacos: The American Legion Post 32, next to Firth Park, will host Monday Nite Tacos on Dec. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tacos are $1 each; taco salad is $3, and beans are free.

The Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary board members will meet Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. in the hospital cafeteria.

Wednesday

Fines Forgiveness Month: The Safford City-Graham County Library is celebrating Fines Forgiveness Month from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31. Bring back your overdue library books and cans of food to donate to the food bank, and your past fines will be forgiven. Call the library at 428-1531 with questions.

Thatcher Food Bank will distribute food at the ballpark near the Thatcher Cemetery from 11 to 12:30 p.m. today. Food is distributed the second Wednesday of each month.

The Safford Lions Club meets at noon Wednesday at the China Taste restaurant. Visitors are welcome.

Thursday

The Solomon American Legion Lopez/Hernandez Post 95 Santa will be handing out Christmas stockings at the Solomon American Legion Lopez/Hernandez Post 95 at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23.

The Office of Environmental Health and Engineering will have a food handlers training class at 3 p.m. on Dec. 23, at the Bylas Older Adult Center. Call (928) 475-7213 with questions.

Bingo is every Thursday and Friday night at the Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3481 W. 8th Street in Thatcher. Games start at 7:45 p.m.; doors open 5:30 p.m. There is a $1,000 coverall jackpot. Fifty-four numbers or less pays $1,000 with a $100 consolation prize. Smoking and nonsmoking rooms are available. Come early for the best seating. No one under the age of 18 is allowed on bingo nights. Candy, popcorn and soft drinks are only 50 cents. For information call John Mugridge at 428-1021.

Friday

Christmas event for kids: The Grace Lutheran Church at 225 East Main Street in Safford will host a Christmas event for kids ages preschool through sixth grade on Dec. 24. There will be Bible lessons, crafts, music and refreshments. For more information contact Pastor Paul Schulz at 428-7620.

All Saints Episcopal Church will celebrate Christmas with a service of carols and Eucharist at 8 p.m. on Dec. 24. Everyone is welcome at the service to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus. The chuch is at 210 West Main Street in Safford. Call 348-9430 for more information.

The Graham County Senior Citizen Center: will be closed Dec 24.

Discovery Park will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31- Jan. 1 in observance of Christmas and New Years. The park will be open Dec. 27-30 from 3 to 9 p.m.

Saturday

The Odd Fellows sponsor breakfast every Saturday morning from 7:30 to 9:30 at 302 7th Street in Safford. Breakfast consists of either biscuits and gravy or pancakes and bottomless cups of coffee. The cost is $2 with all proceeds going to the Odd Fellows toy drive. Contact Jim Elwood for more information.
