If you're planning a summer escape on an airplane, a cruise ship or just staying around town, don't forget to take along a couple of good books.

While many people associate the summer months with outdoor activities and vacations, people also tend to carve out more time to read, Jan Elliott, Safford City-Graham County Library director, said.

"Our biggest, busiest season is in the summer," Elliott said.

She said the number of checkouts nearly doubles during the summer months.

According to library statistics, 87,000 library materials were borrowed last year. The library served 7,410 county residents last year.

Elliott recommended a few books adults and young adults may want to consider reading this summer.

The Safford City-Graham County Library is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
