Pima resident shines at rodeo

Pima resident T. J. Sandoval took first place for the age 9-12 division at Arizona Junior Rodeo Finals, winning a belt buckle and a saddle.

Sandoval has been riding junior bulls for four years. In October he will move up to the 13-15 age group, which also means he will be riding bigger bulls.

He has the heart to do this sport even though he gets kicked, stepped on and bruised. Despite these injuries and an occasional road rash, he always wants to get back on a bull.

Bull riding is believe to be the toughest sport. Often, people ask his parents, “How can you watch your son do this?” They respond that it is hard to watch, but anything can happen because he is a kid.”

T.J. has done well. He has won a total of 10 buckles and cash prizes. This year alone he has won five buckles.

The young bull rider has a lot of family support. His parents thank everyone for the local support given to T.J.
