Supervisors want in-house laundry service at county jail

If there is no new washer and dryer at the Graham County Jail in one month, the county will advertise for bids to do the jail's laundry, the Graham County Board of Supervisors voted on Monday.

The need for a washer and dryer at the county lockup surfaced when Seth Allen, owner of a local laundromat, asked the board about a contract to wash the jail's dirty laundry. He said the county spends up to $2,000 a month for outside laundry services and asked if he could have a contract with the county to perform laundry services for the jail.

Supervisor Jim Palmer said the board had previously authorized the purchase of a washer and dryer for the jail. The plan was for inmates to use the machines to wash clothing and linens.

Hughes said recently that a laundry facility will be housed in a proposed expansion of the Graham County Jail. The supervisors have not advertised for bids on the proposed jail project.

County Manager Terry Cooper said the county would have to go out to bid before it could award a contract for laundry services.

The supervisors decided that if a washer and dryer are not purchased within one month for the jail, the county will go out for bid on laundry services. The bid process would take about a month, Cooper said.

In an unrelated matter, the supervisors approved an intergovernmental agreement that allows Graham County to participate in the Arizona Public Employer Human Resources Consortium. The purpose of the consortium is to provide human resources and related services to member counties, including development and implementation of improved human resources information and payroll systems.

"It's really meant to save the county money," Cooper said.

According to the agreement, the consortium will be administered by a board of directors. The directors will be tasked with formulating policies and procedures; collecting, managing appropriating and disbursing funds; developing operating plans; procuring products and services; hiring employees, such as agents, attorneys, auditors and consultants; developing a budget, and adopting rules and regulations.

In other business, the supervisors received a list of possible appraisers for the Eighth Street Bridge project. Cooper asked that each supervisor choose an appraiser from the list and submit his choice to Cooper. A final choice will be made from the short list.

" If you really want to get mad about Denton's dishonesty, take a look at his website touting his honesty:
http://www.jeremynegotiates.com/contact.php and how he cuts down other real estate agents in the "shame" page. Maybe complaints to AZ Dept Real Estate would help. "

" Same here. Our son was to attend on June 21, 2008. Camp cancelled and we are out $2900.00. If you have any info or suggestions pleae contact us. Mr. Denton is employed at Signature Realy Group in Tempe. I did make contact with him there. No luck or even a promise of when we would see a refund. This was a planned rip-off. IMHO "

" My son was signed up to attend the Aug. 2007 session and one week before camp it was washed out. In Sept. 07 we were told by J. Denton we would get a refund of $3800 within 90 days. No contact since then. As we live in Washington state we don't have any means of getting our money returned. How many other families are in this situation? Is there anything else we can do?

" I too am still waiting for a refund of $3800.00. After months of not hearing from them via phone or email, Jeremy Denton called me in November and promised me a refund "by the end of the year". I haven't heard a word from them since, nor have they responded to certified letters nor contact by the BBB. "

" My son was supposed to attend the cancelled Operation Noble Eagle on July 29, 2007. I am still waiting for a refund of the $3800 I paid in tuition on November 28, 2007. Jeremy Denton will not commit to a refund date, although he originally assured me I would have one within 90 days. I can provide copies of the emails I have sent and received trying to obtain a refund, and proof of the $3800 I paid ($500 on my credit card for a deposit, and $3300 in the form of a check). "
