Mt. Turnbull Rodeo and Festivities this week

The San Carlos Apache Tribe invites everyone to the Bylas Community’s 15th Annual Mt. Turnbull Rodeo and Festivities April 4-8 in Bylas.

Below is a summary of events for the week.

  • All-Indian Rodeo — The All-Indian Rodeo is April 7 and 8 at 1 p.m. daily, and all events are sanctioned by SWIRA. The Junior Rodeo is April 6 at 9 a.m. and will feature events in the following age categories: 5- 9, 10-13 and 14-17. There will be a Jackpot Team Roping on April 6 at 5:30 p.m. and a Bull Bash on April 7 at 6 p.m. For information contact Rawley or Joelinda Ben at 928-812-3633.

  • Apache Art Exhibit and Competition — The community will be sponsoring Mt. Turnbull Apache Art Exhibit and Competition on April 6 and 7 at the new Exhibit Hall. All are invited to view and purchase Apache arts and crafts such as paintings, woodwork, beadwork, drums, moccasins, dresses, baskets, Apache flutes and cradleboards. The grand opening for the new Exhibit Hall is April 4 at 4 p.m.; the judging for the entries will be April 6, and the Open Shows will be April 6 and 7.   • Fenders II Concert — The Parade Committee is sponsoring a concert and dance by Fenders II from Crownpoint, N.M., on Saturday, April 7, at the Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall. Tickets are on sale for $10.

  • Metal Bash 2007 — Hope in Darkness will sponsor a free Metal Bash 2007 on April 6 at 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall. The featured bands are Darkness Before Dawn, Enemy Machine, Fractured, Bloodrush and Existence AD.

  • Basketball tournaments — The Bylas Recreation Program will sponsor an open men’s and women’s basketball tournament from April 4 - 8 at the Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall. The men’s championship team will receive $2,000 cash and eight jackets. The women’s championship team will receive $1,000 cash and eight jackets. The tournament will be run by certified officials and will be entertained by Mike the Announcer. For information contact Chris Duncan at 928-475-4398.

  • Softball and T-ball tournaments — The Bylas Recreation Program will sponsor coed softball and t-ball tournaments from April 4 - 8 at the new Lee Dona Sr. Memorial Baseball Park.   • Parade — There will be a parade April 7 at 10 a.m. in downtown Bylas. This year’s grand marshals areDavis and Susie Dustin, and the emcee is Gerald Kenton.

  • Gospel Jam 2007 — A Gospel Jam 2007 is in Bylas on April 7 at 5 p.m., and dinner will be served. There will be many Gospel artists from all parts of the state. For information contact Emerson Baylish at 928-475-4305 or Martha I. Baylish at 928-475-4398.

  • Sneezy Boyz Concert — A concert and dance by The Sneezy Boyz local band is Friday, April 6, at 9 p.m. at the Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall. Admission is $5 per person.

  • Carnival — The Carnival is April 6 - 8 next to the Rodeo Arena and the Exhibit Hall. For more information contact Karen Titla at 928-475-6701.

  • Fun Run/Walk — The Fort Thomas Unified School District’s Physical Education Program will sponsor the 5K Fun Run and 2-Mile Walk on April 7 at 7:00 a.m. at the Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall. T-shirts and drinks will be provided to all participants. In conjunction with this event, Chairman Wendsler Nosie will be sponsoring an Easter Breakfast from 6-8 a.m. at the Ernest Stanley Memorial Hall.   • Grand opening — Everyone is invited to the grand opening of the new Exhibit Hall, the new baseball field and the partially renovated Rodeo Grounds on April 4 at 4 p.m. The agenda includes special guest speakers, entertainment, tours, dinner and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
