Christopher Lee Harris, 28, of Denton, Texas, was prepared to plead guilty to lesser charges July 10, but his attorney, Wendell Hughes, asked Judge Pro Tem Robert Pursley to grant a continuance for one week until Judge R. Douglas Holt came back to accept his plea.

Holt was in Utah at the time, dealing with a family emergency.

Hughes said the Harris case was the second most serious case in the county right now, and the judge who accepts the plea would also have to do the sentencing.

During his week of waiting, Harris allegedly took part in a disturbance at the Graham County Jail.

Harris is being held at the jail on a $200,000 cash bond on 11 counts, including three counts of aggravated assault, unlawful flight from law enforcement, theft of a mode of transportation, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful discharge of a firearm, endangerment and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

Upon hearing of Harris’ alleged involvement in the jail brawl, Graham County Attorney Kenneth Angle rescinded his plea bargain offer at Harris’ court appearance July 17. He asked Judge Holt to set a trial date instead so he could investigate whether the county attorney’s office would seek additional charges.

Hughes argued he believed a deal was made and thought it unfair to have it removed.

Judge Holt stated that until the defendant admits in court and on the record to the crimes he committed, he didn’t think it was a done deal.

Before being apprehended in a Thatcher cotton field Sept. 9, 2006, Harris and his 18-year-old accomplice, Loren Marie Gonczi, reportedly were on a three-week, multistate crime spree.

They were apprehended after Harris crashed the stolen, green GMC Jimmy he allegedly took at gunpoint from a woman in McPherson County, Kansas.

Harris and Gonczi are wanted in several other states, including Texas, where they are wanted for burglary, weapons charges, vehicle theft and possession of illegal drugs.

Harris and Gonczi are suspected of committing crimes in Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Wiscon-sin, Nebraska, New Mexico and Missouri.

Judge Holt tentatively set Harris’ trial to begin Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m.

Harris’ next pretrial conference was set for Sept. 25 at 3 p.m., and he is scheduled for a status conference Aug. 14 at 1:30 p.m.

Gonczi pleaded guilty to charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia in October of 2006.

She received a sentence of 12 months from the Arizona Department of Corrections but still faces multiple charges from other states.

" Re: Eve Batchelder murder-2006. I personally knew Eve as did many of my other co-workers and we were appalled that her confessed murderer was allowed to plead to a lesser charge (obviously) to escape the death penalty. This was a pre-meditated murder and kidnapping, resulting in the death of a wonderful, gentle soul not to mention leaving her two children without their mother! Jason Martinez does not deserve to live at the expense of the taxpayers with the chance that he could be paroled! Society cannot afford to be "soft" for the fear of peer pressure. "

In literature there are many scientific indications that the preparation of the sacred liquid (Haoma),could not contain a Hallucinogen-Entheogen drug (cf publications of Harry Falk, Jan Houben, Frits Staal and the late Mary Boyce).
As a plant-physiologist and toxicologian, I did some study about the preparation of Parahom (as described in Avesta). From the scientic point of view it is impossible that the sacred drink is hallucinogen.
I do not understand the arguments of the Pima's Church of Cognizance.
It is as stupid as the assert: Jesus used Marihuana. "

If someone suffers from chronic headaches and stuff like that they should be allowed to carry it around. IT was a bad thing to distribute it around to others, but they should be able to keep it anyway. Its not like teachers are all that willing to let students out of the classroom just because of a headache!!! SMS should be sued. Strip searching a student like that should NOT BE ALLOWED!!!! "
