Jay and Vergie Ferguson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 11, 2007. They are natives of the Gila Valley and met while attending the University of Arizona. They were married in Safford, where they remained to own and operate Ferguson’s Firestone Store and raise three children. They moved to Flagstaff in 1968 and now live in Globe.

Safford Middle School registering
Safford Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade students may register Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 1-3, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., also. All students are required to pay a $10 registration fee and a $1 field trip fee. Students who participate in band, choir or strings must also pay an additional $1 fee.

Summer Youth Program fosters leadership
The Graham County Summer Youth Leadership Program is a group of kids learning how to be leaders and how to better the community through volunteer service, teaching new ways to improve lives by helping to make a safer community. The county appreciates the support of sponsors who contribute to the program’s success: Safford Unified School District, Graham County Probation, Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education, and Mount Graham Safe House.
