Morrison wins junior bullriding crown in Lordsburg, N.M.

14-year-old leads Duncan Junior Rodeo series

Skeeter Morrison is only 14 years old, but he is no stranger to the rodeo life.

Morrison has been riding steers for several years and won the junior bullriding competition at the Hidalgo County Fair in Lordsburg, N.M., on Aug. 25.

“It has been a dream of Skeeter’s to be a bullrider all of his life, and he is finally getting to live that dream,” Morrison’s mother, Lorraine, said.

Morrison was the only rider out of 10 contestants to stay on his bull for the allotted time. He received a belt buckle and a check for winning the event.

Morrison also competes in the Duncan Junior Rodeo series, which he is winning. In that competition, he rides steers and also does breakaways and team ropes.

Morrison’s younger brother, Stirrup (8 years old), rode a calf at the Hidalgo County Fair and is winning the calf-riding portion in his age group in the Duncan Junior Rodeo series.

The finals of the Duncan Junior Rodeo series take place at the Greenlee County Fair on Sept. 20-23.
