Officers arrested Jesus Gonzales of Massachusetts on Wednesday after he returned to the scene of one of the crimes.

Safford Police were originally called to a residence on Santa Fe Street late Tuesday evening after the homeowner discovered jewelry and his 357 Smith and Wesson revolver were missing.

The victim told police his cousin, Jesus Gonzales, was visiting from Massachusetts and might have been responsible for the thefts.

A report was made, and police left the scene - but not for long.

At approximately 1:05 a.m., police were called back to the residence after a report that Gonzales had returned.

Officers located the the revolver on Gonzales, loaded with one spent cartridge. Police also found a bag of bullets and $480.21 in cash, coin and rolled coin in a bag wrapped up in an apron.

Officers soon learned the China Taste restaurant on Highway 70 had been burglarized.

Upon securing the restaurant, officer Sherri O’Neal noticed the cash register was empty and the plastic bags the restaurant uses were of the same make that was found on Gonzales.

Gonzales was booked into the Graham County Jail on charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, misconduct involving weapons, criminal damage and theft.
