Eastern Arizona College’s popular anthropology lecture series Discover Anthropology continues at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, when EAC Dean Harry Swanson presents “People of the Lower Colorado River.” This free lecture and slide show will take place in the Pioneer Schoolhouse on the Discovery Park campus.

Swanson will discuss this fascinating people of the Southwest, including how the Navajo and Hopi ended up living on the Colorado River Indian Tribes Reservation near Parker and why the Maricopa, who formerly lived near present-day Parker, now live on the Gila and Salt River reservations with the Pima.

“Come discover the purpose of the ‘Salt Song’ and why it is so cleverly ironic. Find out more about the ‘people who play with fishes,’ the significance of ‘big eyes’ to the Mohave and the worst insult one could make to a Mohave person,” Swanson said.

These lectures are always suitable for children, and the entire community is invited to the Discover Anthropology at Discovery Park series as it explores the amazing way various cultures construct suitable ways to subsist, worship and behave.

For more information about this upcoming lecture or the Discovery Park campus contact Swanson at 428-6260.
