Two AYSO soccer teams from Graham County won championships at the 18th Annual Fort Lowell Shootout tournament in Tucson on Jan. 18-20.

Region 216 (Graham County) won titles in the U-10 group and the U-14 group.

More than 350 teams from across Arizona and a few international teams competed.

The U-10 Bulldogs, coached by Chevy Lopez and Todd Lewis, finished 3-0 against teams from Canyon Del Oro, Show Low and Sierra Vista.

Nate Borjon, Michael Urrea, Walker Lewis and Mitchel McHugh scored in a 4-0 win over CDO Club Chaos. The Bulldogs also defeated the Show Low Strikers 4-2 and the Freedom Soccer Club Scorpions (Sierra Vista) 4-1.

Borjon, Urrea, Genesis Martinez and Riley DeSpain scored in the victory over the Strikers, and goal-scorers in the win over the Scorpions included DeSpain, Weston Jacobson, Hunter Fullson and Brock Romero.

Team United (U-14) from Region 216 was coached by Warren Williams and Lance Scarborough.

Team United shut out its first three opponents to make the finals.

The first win was 1-0 over Mountain Thunder (Lakeside), and Tony Reynolds scored the lone goal.

The second game for Team United was a 3-0 triumph over the Sierra Vista Jammers. Goals were scored by Marcos Maldonado, Amber Williams and John Sabin. Those two victories qualified Team United for the semifinals, where it matched up with the Sierra Vista Broncos.

Sabin was a one-man wrecking crew as he tallied a hat trick (three goals) in a 3-0 win to advance to the finals.

Team United again faced Mountain Thunder in the championship game, and Maldonado and Williams each scored a goal to lead the team to the championship.

Each age group (U-10 and U-14) played its games in the Copper Division. A total of four divisions competed in each age group.
