Elected state officials to attend Lincoln Day Dinner

The Eastern Arizona College will be on display Thursday when state officials join local residents for the Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner in the Gherald Hoopes Activity Center on campus.
Republicans from Graham and Greenlee counties, including District 5 Rep. Bill Konopnicki, will be joined by State School Superintendent Tom Horne, Arizona House Speaker Pro Tempore Bob Robson, District 5 Senator Jake Flake, District 30 Rep. Marian McClure and District. 9 Rep. Bob Stump, said Keith Alexander, event chairman.
Representatives from the offices of Arizona Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl are also expected to attend the dinner.
The visiting legislators will have a hand in determining the success of legislation introduced by Konopnicki aimed at allowing EAC to offer four-year degrees.
Konopnicki, Alexander and EAC President Mark Bryce are working to ensure the guests leave with an appreciation of the local support for four-year programs at the college and EAC’s ability to administer advanced degrees.
Bryce will provide the officials with an overview of the college and answer all questions they may have, according to a news release from the Graham County Republican Party.
There will be printed badges of support for the college available at the dinner for all to wear. Signed petitions supporting the legislation will be presented to legislative leaders.
Konopnicki hopes there will be a large turnout — Democrats as well as Republicans.
“This is a unique opportunity to have these key decision-makers actually together inside the facility at Eastern Arizona College,” Alexander said.
Invited speakers chosen from the visiting officials will address traditional Republican issues. There also will be ample opportunities for those in attendance to meet their elected officials.
The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and individual tickets are $25. A limited number of sponsorships are still available. Either can be purchased by calling Duane Rhodes at 651-0563.
