Kouts not off to a good start representing interests of the city

Editor:

How sad that Mr. Kouts thinks the Boys and Girls Club is just providing babysitting and that seven volunteers are perhaps too much for supervising hundreds of children. Perhaps his children have all they need and don’t need any assistance and/or activities. If so, good for his kids, but what about the other taxpayers’ and voters’ kids who don’t have the wonderful resources that he has.

You, Mr. Kouts, are just starting off as a representative of the Safford community, and you certainly have gotten off to a bad start. Perhaps a good way to start is to not break the law, being a city official (fireworks), and to put the blame where it belongs (you) and not on the local law for not enforcing its own laws.

Afraid to cite the vice mayor! What a copout that response was from the police chief (excuses, excuses). Maybe if people were fined for breaking the law, the city would have more operating money. What’s the purpose of the law if it isn’t enforced?

Hopefully, the voters will remember these things at election time!

" That is a reason why I dont live in Graham County anymore. I want my kids know the way it should be & not who you should be or hang out ........It's who you know. If you dont play on the right side of the tracks, you wont go far. No matter who you are, EVERYONE should have the same law & rules to go by. Thats not the way it works in GRAHAM COUNTY & everyone knows who you are and all the dirt that has been swept under the rug to keep it quiet. Where's the law? "

" Citizen Tax payer and Time to speak both sound like bundles of joy. One has never heard of the word “fun” and the other doesn’t realize that this article was about the Vice Mayor, nor that a new council was elected because the people realized it was the OLD sitting council who caused the problems…..not the Mayor and new council. Next time anyone has a get together with live music and fun, you guys are not invited. You can sit and pout. "

" I thought Safford was a religious community... I did not realize that religious people were so hateful. Those that are doing wrong know they are doing it, One day it will come back and bite you right in the rear. That's what I call Carma. Mayor Green should be setting an example that when he don't like someone he can still be civil and still work with that person but instead he makes it very noticeable and refuses to even try. Come on Mayor if you want this position step up and be the bigger person. "

" Mary, you live in Thatcher or Thatche3 as it appears in print. (Not sure who can't spell Mary or the Courier.) When you move to Safford you can vote for whomever you like on Safford's City Council. Until that time, just don't you worry your pointed little head about our Vice-Mayor and our Police Chief. "

" Some Club's maintain a bingo night while some hold "casino nights" for the community's high rollers. But then again, this community does nothing for the kids that isn't half hearted. How many seasons did the Little League almost have enough volunteer coaches?

To expect the city to fund the Club is disgracful. I guess since some organizatinos in the valley have provisions for their children, the rest fend off the government dole.

Those of you whining about bottle-rockets throw the first stone if you're without sin. Otherwise shut up. "

" You folks are Mayberry's! What dolts Safford is!

To actually believe it is the city's responsibility to fund the Boys and Girls Club! What nonsense.

It is YOU who should be funding the Club through fundraisers and grants. Anyone who knows anything about the Boy's and Girl's Clubs nationally can tell you that they are 70% SELF funded by the community they serve (including the buildings).

What a pitiful city Safford is where they rely on the public tax to fund their Club, then whine about a city councilman. "

" It is ashame that when someone becomes and elected official that they become immune to the laws of the city and county. Mr. Kouts is not the only one who sets off fireworks and only gets a slap on the wrist our MAYOR does the same and he lives in town. He will also have get togethers at his house and have live music and the it can be heard a half mile away. When you call the police they go and find out it is the mayor having a party and do nothing. No back bone. "
