Thatcher residents need their own pool

Published on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 8:58 AM MST

Dear Editor:

As we move through the hot lazy days of summer we can expect to see kids in their swimming suits and towels walking or riding their bikes down to the local swimming pool; but oh, I forgot that the kids and families of Thatcher don’t have a local swimming pool to go to.

Parents have to drive their kids down to the Safford or Pima pools because it is too far to walk or ride a bike.

It is time that the City of Thatcher gets its act together and builds a pool for the citizens of Thatcher so they don’t have to go and crowd into the pools in Safford and Pima. I would like it if Thatcher families could rent the Thatcher pool for a party or maybe have night swimming when the sun is not beating down. We, as a town, need a pool of our own so we can run it the way we want and not be dependent on others.

In a nutshell, the citizens of Thatcher need a community pool run and operated by the community for the community.

Sincerely,

Patrick E. Zink

Mr. Hinton negotiate a deal with Cota to build one. I'm certain with your good friendship you can swing a deal.
Especially since Safford subsidizes the cost of everything else.

What does Thatcher pay for? You can use that surplus of cash that you receive from Safford sharing revenue from Wal-Mart & the other Safford businesses. "

Look at all the crap with Ron Green and we have are "lovly" vice mayor Jason Kouts these people are in there because not enough people stood behind the other canidates and voted,so we are stuck with the same crap, and you live in thatcher, sorry. Same way with the EAC board, only until you see the names on a ballot. But they do put it on a piece of paper in the front of town hall so it is legal, same with EAC.It really is time for change.Wonder how much Thatcher spent for Vals and the electric system, did they ask the taxpayers about spending that kind of money,no,never will. Maybe we should spend more time taling aobut the Thatcher town councel and ask where all the tax payer money is going. We all know its not going in the city pool, or golfcourse, or wastwater plant, or drinking water system, or landfill, or airport. Maybe THatcher can get some advice from Pima on how to get a community pool. Thatcher is the definition of freeloader. "

I think that thatcher should start spending there money on imlproving there own town and stop depending on the towns around them, and by the way I believe last I knew Terry Hiton has a business in Safford. It dont matter were you live everybody in this area that is in office has lived in this area all there lives. "

The acting city manager lives in Thatcher. The utility director lives in Thatcher. The chief of police lives in Thatcher.

The special projects director lives where? The human resources director lives where?

So who running Safford lives in Safford? Pete Stasiak and the fire chief.

So none of these people who run Safford actually have to live under the laws and conditions they impose on Safford do they? "

The idiot manager named Duane says because people don't use it enough but if you talk with the citizens they all say they would use it mor, no one has ever left it open to see. What about Schools and other organizations using it? The city never seems to make the pool a priority after spending so much money!! "

One of the problems is that Safford officials can't run the safford pool the right way so everyone can enjoy it! Pete Stasiak is always worrying about how good he looks instead of how the pool runs. the pool can support ALL valley kids if it was run half way right!! "

As far as Thatcher and their pool goes i also did not like the atmoshphere at the EAC pool. They ran it like a prison camp back when i went there. My scout troop had to go to Globe to complete our Scuba Diving Lessons since EAC would not let us in their pool with our tanks on. Thatcher is full of good people. Just ask them. "

So lets build them a nice pool and lets hope things have changed a little bit.Not LDS but it must of been bad back then for you to have to ride to Safford to swim. "
