Petty politics stops needed debate of candidates

Editor:

I am Joe Chapin, and I am a Republican candidate for the Graham County Board of Supervisors, District 3. I am new to the political process, and this is my first campaign for an elective office.

I was invited, and accepted the invitation, by the Graham County Democratic Committee to be in a debate with all supervisor candidates. But now in the past week, there has been so much political squabbling via e-mail about the debate that I’m not sure if it is even going to happen.

That leaves me with a problem. I have an important message to get out to the people of Graham County, and one of the avenues for delivering my message is being blocked by petty politics. As far as I’m concerned, the problems facing our county are far too large and important to be sidelined in this fashion.

I want the debate. I would welcome two or three of them, and I don’t care who sponsors them, my message will be the same: We need change and the voters have a real choice.

We are facing issues in Graham County that no one envisioned five years ago, and we need a change of leadership to resolve them fairly, timely and appropriately.

We need thoughtful planning for the future of Graham County.

The voters of Graham County have a choice, and I am ready, more than willing and able to serve. Can we get the petty politics out of the way?

Joe Chapin

The Assessor held Euro-trash accountable for their fair share of the taxes. They sued and lost. Now, the republicans want to replace our Assessor with a new Assessor puppet.

As they say, want to know what's going on? Follow the money. "

Eurofresh didn't sue the BOS over taxes, they sued the county over the vauation and the Assessors office did have to support the value. The Supreme court found that the assessment was fair. You should be more informed before you speak. It's all public info - easy to find. "

True, the case was won, but not without costing a lot of money. And the reason there was a court case is because of unfair taxing. Your cost of taxes depend on who you are and if you are liked. If they like you, they will find all the ways to keep your taxes low, if not you pay through the nose! "

I also think that all of the values are critically checked by the Arizona Department of Revenue and pass the test. "

As a life-long Greenlee County resident I plan on retiring in Graham County so I'm saddened, disgusted and dissapointed by the tone of these messages. Hate and criticism is unnecessary, repugnant and childish. ELECTED is the key word here -- cast your vote and keep your mouth shut if you can't say something worthwhile. You can go on with your fault finding but you can't add to your virtue by tearing another's down. You've shown your own ignorance and lack of judgment. "

It has cost the feeder the same.Subdivision is an answer and then there will be no habitat to support any wildlife to hunt, private or public. If a zip code was initiated by the board all the tax revenues for the semis(VLT) that haul ag products produced in Bonita would remain in Graham County.Idea? "

Palmer his wife teaches school so they might get along okay. Herrington, lost the farm and now sells peaches in the summer time. Maybe Salt Lake will give him a paying job. None are truly trained for any skill job. Word is out Terry Cooper is retiring in a few years and moving to the Phoenix area. Vote for change "

Why? Its time for change. "

Why not have a meet the candidate night and give each submitted questions to answer. If all have the same surprise questions the last guy up has the best chance since he has heard the others answers. Maybe it was planned that way to make the BOS look smarter than they appear to be. A candidate could get up and say I feel this way or that about something but 3 minutes is not long enough to answer the question. I say let people submit to the Courier questions than have each candiate answer them and the other candidate would not know until they read the paperhow theotheranswers. "
