Bus driver compliments courteous tanker, truck drivers

Editor:

Since May of this year, the end of the school year, I’ve been transporting employees of Freeport-McMoRan from Safford to Morenci and back, twice a day.

Unlike my travels to and from the mine in Miami, every trip is a pleasure.

Having said that, I believe anyone capable of criticism should also be capable to compliment. Therefore, I’d like to compliment the acid tanker drivers, and especially the CTI drivers who travel through Safford to the mine in Morenci. Not only do they not tailgate or force you to make snap decisions to avoid an accident, but they actually move over for you when traversing a hill at a slow rate of speed. They offer every courtesy of the road to fellow drivers – cars, trucks and buses. To this I say, “Thank you.”

Unfortunately, my anger toward the CTI drivers who drive to the mine in Miami may have lumped all drivers in the same pile.

For this I do apologize, mainly because I’ve seen the other side of the fence. So while you’re driving your tanker to or from the mine in Morenci and see a bus driver with blond hair saluting you, it’s me. Again, bravo to you!

Sincerely,

Fred Smith

" they go on small roads because Freeport couldn't put their copper mine on highway 70 and they need to pick up from and deliver to Freeport. Also one of the companies has their yard on a small road. They get to go home too. Freeport's tax payments go towards road maintainance and a lot of other things we would not otherwise have "

" They are transporting sulfuric acid to the mines. And the Safford fire Dept has the capabilities of handling it I believe. "
