Please care enough about your pets to keep them safe

At 5:45 this morning, I was driving along Highway 70 on my way to the mine in Morenci. There was a house to my left, and in the driveway were two dogs playing. One was reddish (I have no idea what breed), and the other was a small black Chihuahua, and they were running dangerously close to the highway. I especially noticed the Chihuahua because I have a similar dog at home. I smiled nervously but continued on.

At around 8:30 the same morning, I passed the same house, and the little black Chihuahua was lying along the side of the road dead.

There seem to be numerous family dogs running loose along Highway 70, and it makes for a dangerous situation for dogs and motorists, at least for those of us who try to avoid hitting the dogs.

Highway 70 through Safford is beginning to look like Highway 70 through Bylas. Far too many dogs and cats are being killed. Is this because we’re indifferent to them? After all, they are living, breathing things and deserve every right to live.

Please, if you care for your pet, or pets in general, keep them safe from harm. Keep them at home.

Agree with you Robin wrote on Aug 6, 2008 10:02 AM:

" I saw the same thing probably the same morning. And later saw the Chihuahua dead along side of the road. Not only as you state is it dangerous for drivers to try and avoid( and I know I would) but also for the animals allowed to run free. If you own a pet it needs to have a good secure yard. It is sickening to me to see, as you state, lately all the dead animals along HWY 70. Your pets depend on you to make then safe and secure. They give there love in return. "
