It did NOT take the Fire dept. forever to get out there. There are many who would like to be volunteer firefighters. A few are chosen. Give them the credit they deserve.
Also, why don't you ask your county supervisor to get you some hydrants out there. "

" After being alerted by two sheriff deputies of this house fire next door I got on the roof of my place to water down our structure from where I could see much of the effort that the Safford Fire Department expended on this fire. The lack of hydrants out here was a real problem for fighting this blaze and 4 truckloads of water were needed to extinguish it. My thanks to the Sheriff Dept and to the Safford Fire Dept for their efforts to contain this blaze and alerting us to the danger. "

" A move to a paid department would require incorporation of medical services to give the paid department something to do as well as try to bring in some sort of cash flow. Note that this would require a new fire station, purchase of ambulances, equipment and restructuring. Fire fighters in paid departments actually do very little fire fighting. In fact about 85% of calls are medical. Fire calls are not only less common due to modern technology such as sprinkler systems and building codes, they are also a huge financial drain. How would a "well educated" man like yourself propose paying for adequate numbers of firefighters to be on call 24-7 for an event that might happen once every 1-2 weeks? "
