A Republican Headquar-ters open house featured several local and nonlocal candidates for office Aug. 6.

The candidates were Sydney Hay, Sylvia Allen, Mark Herrington, Jim Palmer, PJ Allred and Darlene Alder, as well as other officials running for office.

Hay is campaigning as a U.S. Congressional candidate for District One. Allen is campaigning for state senator District Five. Herrington is campaigning for county supervisor District 3, and Palmer is campaigning for county supervisor District Two. Allred is running for county sheriff and Alder for county assessor.

Sydney Hay, who is running for U.S. Congress, Arizona District One, pumps gas for Daniel Ulibarri, a Gila Valley resident, at Jo-Bi’s Market on Aug. 6. Hay campaigned at the gas station for an hour— pumping gas and talking about her views on oil drilling. Photo by Keri Lunt

After a ribbon-cutting to mark the opening of the headquarters, Hay spoke to the audience about Congress and her plans as a representative — if she is elected.

“Congress is holding us hostage,” Hay said, as she addressed several oil issues. Hay is concerned about a decision made by Congress to not drill for oil in specific areas of the United States where “we know oil is.” She said the decision hurts the average family as well as puts U.S. security at risk.

If elected, Hay plans to join the Resources Committee to change the no-drilling amendment.

Before the open house, Hay campaigned at Jo-Bi’s Market — pumping gas while talking about her position in pressing matters, such as gas prices.

Hay plans to visit every community in the district before the election.

A meet-and-greet for Sydney Hay will be at John and Judy Rhodes’ home at 1207 S. Fifth Ave. on Aug. 22. For more information call 428-3169.

Information and literature on all Republican candidates as well as campaigning and voters registration will be available through the election at the Republican Headquarters. The headquarters’ open house was Aug. 6.

The building is located at 1420 First Ave. For more information call 322-1043 or 651-0455.

" Lets be honest, the chief deputy in the school superintendants office was termintated a few years back - ask County Information Technology why and a girl in the Treasures office was indicted by Graham County Superior Court for theft of county money a few years back. As for Ms. Johns, she has the job because her daddy was a Supervisor. This is all public info - look it up. "

" Hello to everyone, I was wondering if all the Republicans would like to come over to the the left side. I was wanting to have a good old fashion flag burning, to show how patriotic we democrats can be. After that we can watch Jane Fonda movies eat popcorn and talk about our feelings. "

From my understanding she did not ask permission to place it on his property so when he removed it she called and threatened him? And i believe there is a ariz. statue saying you can not put an election sign up with out the property owners permission? Does anyone know if this is true? "

" To old democrat: You surely meant to say that Attaway was the most unprofessional elected offical in that building. I find that Mrs. John and McGaghey and surely Mrs. Reynolds are far more professional than the rest of the officals. You need to do a little more research old democrat. As for taxes, I have been paying property taxes in this valley for more than 30 years, and Mrs. Attaway seems to be the unfairest of them all. Sam Player was better in that office than she has been. The county made a bad choice electing Attaway, don't repeat it! "

Ms Attaway is one of the most professional elected officials we have in that entire building. Elect Darlene and you'll find out how wrong you were, but it'll be too late. "

Grow up - mind your own business and cast your vote. Let these people run on their merits - if you don't like them - don't vote for them - the only thing you are proving is your stupidity!! You certainly are not a professional person with your attitude. "

Happy days if the Republicans can put a puppet in that office! They'll use it to reward those they like, and punish those they don't. "

Lower taxes for all the 80 people that filed appeals. Well, well Ms Attaway, guess you can't promise to be fair to all! It is time for a change, and Darlene will fill the office just nicely! "
