Nativity scene ceramics class offered
By popular demand, Eastern Arizona College is again offering a ceramics class that will leave students with an original Nativity scene painted by their own hands just in time for Christmas. The class will be taught by Rennie Godfrey and Debbie Bass at Craft Connection, located at 610 S. Fifth Ave. in Safford, Tuesday evenings from 6-9:30 p.m. The section number, which will be needed when registering, is 5686.

EAC offers adult education program
In April 2008, Eastern Arizona College began a new adult education program at its Discovery Park Campus in Safford. Since that new beginning, more than 30 students have taken advantage of this program. Monday, Aug. 18, is the next start date for Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education and English Language Acquisi-tion for Adults at EAC.

Art guild to host competition and show Sept. 24-27
The Art Guild of Eastern Arizona, centered in the Gila Valley, is hosting its first fine art and photography show. The event will occur in conjunction with Safford’s SalsaFest, on Sept. 24-27, and will be held at Candy’s Ice Cream Company at 428 Main Street in Safford. Artists and photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter and, because of various categories, will be judged only with artists of similar experience.

Eastern Arizona College aerobics and Pilates instructor Brooke Bingham is offering new times and twists in her aerobics and Pilates classes this semester, starting with a new time for students to choose from – 8:30-9:20 a.m. “We’ve added this class for students who just can’t fathom waking up for a 6 a.m. class,” said Bingham, who has heard from her younger students that 6 a.m. is “just too early!”

BLM seeks nominations for Safford Rangeland Resource Team
Citizens interested in the management and conservation of public lands have an opportunity to become directly involved through participation on the Bureau of Land Management Safford Field Office’s Rangeland Resource Team. Nominations are being accepted for positions on the RRT. Those selected will serve three-year appointments to the broad-based citizen council. The nomination deadline is Friday, Aug. 15, 2008.

Foster Parent Classes are Thursday evenings through Sept. 4 from 6-9 p.m. at the Blake Foundation, 250 W. 15th St. in Safford. Foster Care Specialist Jane Villalba said the classes are free and open to all who are interested in becoming foster parents, even those who are considering being licensed but aren’t quite sure about it.
