Along with several other racehorse owners and trainers, I was recently forced to vacate the horse facility at the Graham County Fairgrounds. I feel that the Board of Supervisors, county manager and director of the County Fair and Racing Association acted unjustly and rudely in forcing us to leave our training facility.
I was denied a spot on the agenda for the Aug. 18 Board of Supervisors meeting, where I was hoping to get answers to these and other questions:
|
|
2. Why does he continue to waste the city’s potable water on these pastures, even overwatering them to the point of flooding the barn area? Again, all horses must be removed.
3. Why did the director neglect the basic maintenance (mowing, weeding, garbage collection) in the barn area? Yet he made a point to say how bad the barn area looked.
4. What improvements, if any, is the county considering for the barn area? We, the horsemen, should have input.
5. Where is the money coming from for any repairs and improvements? County employees didn’t get their pay raises, and the director gave the county’s betterment money to Cochise County.
6. Why did the director give Graham County betterment money to Cochise County? Past distributions of Arizona County Fair’s betterment money helped build the fairgrounds.
7. Why do people who live in the fairgrounds’ county-owned house have the right to ride unlicensed motorized vehicles around the fairgrounds? It is plainly posted “No unlicensed motorized vehicles.”
The Board of Supervisors, manager and director have shown nothing but arrogance toward me and the other horsemen with regard to this matter. I read Walter Mares’ viewpoint in the Aug. 13 Courier: “Taxpayers should expect answers, not arrogance.” It makes you wonder. It’s not democracy.

PS-the question really is why did you neglect to weed, mow and especially clean up your own garbage if you were renting the facility-have you ever had a real job? "

Our betterment money also built the barns and put in the track, not to mention paying for the up keep on the facility.
I think this qualifies as paying our way.
This is not about maintenance needing to be done, it's about how Mr. Faunce handled the situation. I was given a 20 day notice to leave my home and give up my livelihood.
I think 'the truth' should do a little research before mouthing off. "

Many of us were born and raised right here in Graham or Greenlee County.
The fairgrounds has been my home for over 10 years and my horses have been boarded there for over 20. I think that makes me a tax payer too.
Oh,and incidentally, it also makes me a voter. "
