Charles Edward Williams

Charles Edward "Eddy" Williams, 72, of Safford passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson. He was born June 11, 1936, in Safford to Nephi Williams and Margaret Ellen Winsor. He married Ruth McBride on Dec. 20, 1960, in the Mesa LDS Temple.

Eddy was reared and educated in the Gila Valley. He graduated from Safford High School and Eastern Arizona College. He worked for the city of Safford, Phelps Dodge and Williams Service, which he owned and operated. His greatest legacy was fixing and repairing everyone's car, usually for no charge.

Eddy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, recently as a counselor in the Kimball Spanish-speaking branch. He also took care of the LDS Cannery here in Safford.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Safford; daughters Tamela (Mikel) Morris of Safford, Margaret "Missy" Hurston of Safford, Gwen Williams of Tempe and Marylynn Kimball of Safford; brothers Glyn, Jay and Alvin; sisters Cynthia Seale and Louise Mayhew; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Safford LDS Stake Center. Friends may call Monday, Sept. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Caldwell Funeral Chapel, 112 E. Main in Safford, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
