Thatcher School Board

B.K. Merriman

Q&A

Why have you chosen to seek a school board seat?

I am a graduate of Thatcher and have children in Thatcher Scho-ols. I would like to help ensure that Thatcher stays a top choice for education in this area.

What are the two most significant challenges this School District faces in the next one to two years?

Of the many challenges faced, the two most important are budgeting due to rising costs and teacher/ faculty retention.

How would you address those challenges?

I would work together with other board members ensuring that every possible option is explored when addressing issues dealing with increasing growth and the need of more buildings, including maintenance and upkeep of current facilities, transportation and fuel costs. I would work to maintain qualities that make Thatcher Schools a desirable place to work. This would include keeping a supportive work environment, firm discipline, maintaining family involvement in their students’ education and keeping up staff morale. I believe these things will help retain staff and keep the school district from losing them to new local businesses.

Q&A

Why have you chosen to seek a school board seat?

I want to continue to advocate at the tribal, county, state and federal levels for the sole purpose of the students’ education — to prepare them for the future, have parents participate in the school and attract qualified teachers.

What are the two most significant challenges this school district faces in the next one to two years?

As the School District strives forward, there will be some obstacles; however, with the current staff and board, we will overcome them. We need to work at unification so the students can obtain the best education. Staying on top of school funding is also a challenge.

How would you address those challenges?

I will work for all, not just a group of interests, so everyone can benefit. I continue to stand strong in support of the students and employees and for school buildings and textbooks.
