Members of the Gila Valley Recreation Foundation and Stand Against Violence Everywhere joined with representatives of the city of Safford and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Nov. 13 to dedicate new play equipment.
The equipment consists of a large wooden structure supporting a canopied platform, slides, swings and a ramp for children. An identical structure was placed at a play area at the intersection of 14th Avenue and El Paso Boulevard, said Mike Thompson, director of the foundation.
SAVE also donated an additional $3,000 for benches that will be installed at the play areas within the next 60 days.
The city of Safford installed curbing at the play areas and will maintain them. The St. Rose of Lima site was obtained through a lease agreement between the city and the church. The site at 14th Avenue and El Paso Boulevard was donated by the city.
“This was a community effort for the kids,” Thompson said.
Safford Vice Mayor Jason Kouts recognized SAVE, the foundation, Thompson and former foundation director J. T. Cotter for their work in making the play areas a reality.
“It’s because of people like you that children will benefit from this,” he said.
Father Ariel Lustan, pastor of St. Rose of Lima, talked about the church’s role in the project.
“The commitment of St. Rose of Lima is not just for the Catholic community, but for the entire community,” he said.

Would you mind telling us who "WE" are that you referenced in your comment of November 21st?
You said, " And the current Mayor is in his last term; we promise you."
So, who is "WE", the Mafia?
Also, I will repeat that JT deserves our respect and gratitude and not your insults. He will probably continue his good works no matter what you have to say. "

Do you object to charities? Do you object to Safford having Parks? Or do you protest to much because JT was the Chairman of SAVE & he was personally involved in having something positive & productive accomplished in Safford?
What are you personally doing to better Safford? What has Green personally done himself to make Safford a better place?
Doesn't everyone get tired of these spats.
If one could only imagine what could be accomplished if everyone actually worked together.
What a concept! "

This time of year, people with capital gains from things like real estate flipping often donate to *foundations* to off-set their income taxes. Some folks set up foundations to handle donations to the community as off-sets to their taxes.
JT's just getting some face time too (in addition to his donation tax off-sets) "

It still does puzzle me that the city was only paying less than $5oo in rent for over a 10 year period. I beileve i am correct on this time frame. And then it is at close to $10,000. That's really the point i was trying to make.
Ii was commenting on someone elses comment that the present council does not want to spend money on (The Kids). "

The same would be for me to say that PimaTwo has never paid any of his/her bills. Why?
Do you understand the difference? Why not?
I answered your comment because I don't like to see untruths live and breathe on the internet which then causes normally rational people to swear by its authenticity because they read it online. There is enough deception and lies out there already, if there is something I know is incorrect, I don't mind clarifying it. "

The Courier does not show bias here and that is what bothers you. If it were Ron Green standing there with his mouth open you wouldn't have a problem with it. You are showing your bias... JT Cotter has volunteered his time and his leadership to many projects that benefit safford and our youth. Even though he is no longer on city council, he is still civic minded and works for our community. JT deserves respect and gratitude not your insults. "

The Courier shows its bias once again! Rather than a picture of Fr. Ariel watching kids play - we're once again treated to a picture of JT with his mouth open!
We don't want to see him anymore. Didn't he get the message??????? "

Mayor Green & his bunch don't believe in spending money on projects like this. This has something to do with JT Cotter & his bunch remember - they're the enemies - we have to keep the lines drawn here.
Also, Safford has a dilapidated Theater to restore - who needs play areas or parks?
It would be nice if Safford would get on the band wagon & do something positive & productive like this for its citizens wouldn't it? "
