Sandra Rambler, the former secretary of the San Carlos Tribal Council, has been placed on diversion as a consequence of one felony count of fraudulent schemes after writing a bad check in Safford.

Deputy County Attorney Alan Perkins said diversion is a nonjudicial program similar to probation. In Rambler’s case, the charge was dropped and she agreed to the terms of a diversion “contract,” Perkins said.

Diversion contracts include several requirements, including regular reporting and payment of restitution to the crime victim.

Perkins said after consulting with the victim — a local business owner — diversion seemed appropriate because the victim would be reimbursed the amount of the bad check.

If Rambler does not complete the diversion program according to the terms of the contract, she can be charged again for the crime, Perkins said.
