Jodi Layton got her first job at a local Western clothing store when she was a teenager.

She grew up, moved away and for the last 12 years has continued her line of work by managing retail stores in Scottsdale, Dallas and Salt Lake City.

When she moved back to the Gila Valley last year, she saw a need for a clothing store, and when a building became available on Main Street, she decided to open her own shop.

The Wear, a clothing store for women, opened Nov. 15. The boutique offers handbags, jewelry, sunglasses and clothing for women of all ages.

Layton said the styles, selection, customer service and experience that The Wear offers is what sets it apart from other stores.

Clothing from the store varies from everyday styles, dressy clothing, casual wear, trendy fashions and everything in between, said Layton.

Brands such as DownEast Basics, Echo and Miss Me jeans are sold at the store.

Winter jackets and sweaters are sold right now, and Layton plans to bring swimwear in the summer.

“(This is) what I love to do,” Layton said.

In the future, Layton intends to offer clothing and accessories for men also.

The Wear is located at 612 W. Main St. in Safford. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store’s number is 428-3216.

" For years many of us have complained that there is no place to shop but at Wal Mart. Now we have 3 new shops down on Main Street. Let'ssuppot these fine new shop owners. Welcom ladies to Main Street.
Reminder to keep your prices low as you can and bring in sizes for larger women. "
