According to Candace Lines, a first-grade teacher at the academy, the company sent its employees around the community in search of a good cause to which to donate.
A company employee, Paul Loya, contacted Lines about a possible grant that could be given to the school for playground equipment.
Loya’s daughter, Sarah, was the reason contractors built a sidewalk to the playground last July.
Sarah suffers from cerebral palsy and uses a walker that, before the sidewalk, prevented her from joining her classmates on the playground.
Loya and Lines thought the grant could go toward playground equipment better equipped for handicapped children.
In April, Lines completed the paperwork for the grant, and the school was contacted about receiving the money.
The money will go toward new playground equipment and a shade structure.
“We are really excited. We have something in mind for disabled kids to play on,” Lines said.
The money was presented to the school Aug. 21. Lines said a school committee will meet to vote on specific uses of the playground money.
