Town of Pima Police officer Daniel Rios faces criminal charges related to an off-duty incident in Greenlee County involving an apparent romantic triangle.

Clifton Police have forwarded a report to the Greenlee County Attorney's office citing Rios for criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and threatening and intimidating in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 6, in East Plantsite.

According to Clifton Police officer Randy Loya, Charles "CJ" Madrid told police that a vehicle driven by Rios stopped abruptly in front of his residence on Sunset Street. Rios exited the vehicle and jumped over a fence and into Madrid's yard. Madrid said Rios was rolling up his sleeves as he approached Madrid's porch.

Madrid and other witnesses at the scene said Rios began shouting profanities at Madrid and a woman with whom Rios had been romantically involved. In Loya's report, the woman referred to Rios as "an ex-boyfriend" while Rios referred to the woman as his fiancé. Rios reportedly also shouted at other people who were at the scene.

Madrid told Loya that he laughed at Rios and then told Rios to leave the property. Rios reportedly responded by saying, "Stop laughing, or I'm gonna beat your face in." The comment by Rios was corroborated by other witnesses.

Madrid said Rios left and drove back to a nearby church parking lot where he had initially been parked. Also parked in the lot were two Greenlee County Sheriff's patrol cars.

A law enforcement source said Rios, who formerly worked for the Greenlee Sheriff's Office, may have received assistance from one or more deputies in locating Madrid's residence.

Greenlee Sheriff Steve Tucker was not available for comment as of press time Friday. According to a Pima Town Hall secretary, Pima Police Chief Dianne Cauthen said she could not comment on the case because it was still under investigation.

Loya said in his report he issued a victim's rights form to Madrid.

As for daniel. Just give him some slack.. he made a mistake just like the rest of us human beings. I dont think it had anything to do with him being an officer. "

Everyone has problems in their relationships, it just so happend that his got aired out in public because he was a cop. Daniel has made mistakes in his past and thats were the need to stay. I pay taxes (cop's salaries) and I vote. I also obey the law and help out in my neighborhood. I shouldn't feel like I need to fear the people that I pay for to serve and protect me. The departments need to rein in some of their goons. "

" Actually, I am not saying anything. Those statistics came straight from the CDC's Web site so complain at them. Again your argument is deeply flawed, the fact is tobacco killed 435,000 people in 2000, alcohol 85,000 and pot killed none, nada, zip. Cannabis toxicity does not exist. Doctors in every state would prescribe it to you if the federal government would not take away their licenses for doing so. That's why in California they only need a doctor's recommendation. So why don't you tell all those medical doctors how bad pot is for you, huh smart guy. "

Reality Check wrote on Jun 16, 2009 4:02 PM:

    " To Actually,

Check your facts. The CDC numbers show deaths from smoke related illnesses for people who are habitual smokers. Sorry, but 435,000 people did not die from Nicotine Poisoning.

As for Alcohol, you have DUI accidents where a person who dies is hit by a drunk. Alcohol use caused the death, but it wasn't alcohol poisoning that they died from.

As for the illicit use of drugs, those were from OD from drug use.

Try again. Any way you try to put it, POT is not good for you. "

    " According to the CDC,
(2000): "The leading causes of death in 2000 were tobacco (435,000 deaths; 18.1% of total US deaths), poor diet and physical inactivity (400,000 deaths; 16.6%), and alcohol consumption (85,000 deaths; 3.5%). Other actual causes of death were microbial agents (75,000), toxic agents (55,000), motor vehicle crashes (43,000), incidents involving firearms (29,000), sexual behaviors (20,000), and illicit use of drugs (17,000)."
    Deaths attributed to marijuana (0).
So tell me again how pot is more toxic than tobacco. Your logic does not hold water with official results from the center for disease control. "

Reality Check wrote on Jun 16, 2009 10:21 AM:

    " To Actually,
    "Educate yourself"

Tobacco does not kill. Diseases that are contracted because of tobacco use kill people. And Marijuana use is 10 times more toxic to your lungs as cigarettes.

As for the percentage of people dying of Alcohol Poisoning, the amount of people who OD on METH is hundreds of times higher. DUI deaths are high because alcohol is rediliy available. Where people hide Meth and POT use. Legalize Meth and POT and the DUI with POT or Meth will dramatically increase to alcohol rates. "

"How can it be Criminal Tresspass?"

Because he hopped the fence and while on the property after being asked to leave, he threatened to beat up the property owner. The second criminal act of threats and intimidation made it criminal trespass. He didn't immediately leave upon being asked to leave. "

The pay is actually pretty good, so for those who lack the brains and commitment to go to college, it's a good option. In the city you can put together a half way descent group, in a small town, you probably have the P.D. (or Walmart) rejects. Basically all you really need is,,, more donut shops. "

" Because alcohol and tobacco kill hundreds of thousands more people every year than all illegal drugs combined. Marijuana toxicity does not exist. One cannot overdose on marijuana, yet if you drink yourself to a 4.0 BAC you'll most likely die. Tobacco is the largest killer and is a health concern for those around the smokers as well. That's how I can compare. Educate yourself, know the truth behind the useless drug war. That said, I don't advocate any type of drug use at all. Treat your body as a temple and don't put any harmful substances into it. "

Cops have personal lives and issues, too, and act impulsively or make wrong choices. Just as we all do. That does NOT mean they can't perform their duties professionally and impartially. Don't prematurely hang the guy just because he's a cop! "

I will admit I had a few run ins with a few police officers many years ago before I became one. These experiences left me with little to no respect for them. I decided no matter what my partners will do, I wont forget how I felt when I had to deal with these officers and I will NEVER treat anyone like they treated me. People are people, including us officers. "

Just because one officer screws up shouldnt affect your opinion of police officers in general. I am a police officer and I make every effort to treat everyone with fairness and remember where I came from. We have all made mistakes but I know some officers act "badge heavy". A good police officer will EARN his respect from the community and his peers "
