High gas prices work to Obama’s advantage

Editor:

This time people can't blame it on W and his connections to the Texas oil business. Who wants us to all drive one- and two-passenger rollerskates and pedal cars? Think about it. Could it be Obama and Co.?

Even they realize Americans aren't going to go for those death traps you can't take a family vacation in, unless/until gas prices become unacceptable.

So Obama may not be pulling any strings himself to raise gasoline prices, but you can bet your best boots he's happy. He's getting what he wants without the unpopular step of an additional $2 a gallon federal tax.

He is perfectly happy and eager to micro-manage and/or nationalize/socialize any and all other aspects of the economy and of life in general, but would he do anything to control gas prices? (Mind you, I'm not saying the federal government should set gas prices.) But in no way is Obama going to go there, because high gas prices work to his advantage.

" Obama is a socialist communist. He promised not to tax the middle class and he's already broken those promises. He attacked McCain over his plan to tax American workers for employer-provided medical benefits and now he is trying to push the same plan. Both political parties are completely untrustworthy. "

" Borrow? From whom? How many more trillions of dollars are we gonna see packaged up into stimulus programs?Unemployment is almost spiking 10%, gas is in the climb, food is at a 25% increase over the last 6 months. Government owns our cars, our mortgages/homes, our loans (banks), our travel plans, our gas, eventually our jobs, soon to be our healthcare, then our guns. Not to mention higher taxation. The trillions in debt has to be accounted for & guess who will that cost? The U.S. Constitution will be the next thing to take a hit. It's inevitable. "

" Holy Crap- The House majority leader says that we need to plan for a second stimulus package and the leading Obama economist agrees?! We have not even come close to spending all of the 780 billion from the first one yet either. Where is all the money coming from? Oh yeah.....borrow and print...borrow and print! "

" generationx, you gotta be kidding me. Nobody told you to go and follow the crowd & buy that new Escalade & the other 2 SUV's you have in your driveway for your kids. Bush didn't force you to do that. Bush had some problems, yes, however, you can't solve those problems via socialism. Stop concentrating on the party & instead pay attention to the person in office & what he is doing to your Country. Bush is gone. Get over it. How many more executive decisions will BO make that will cost us? "

" Just think Joe- 5 cents a gallon in Iran or Iraq if accurate is due to massive government subsidies designed to keep prices so low. So lets add another link to the chain of industries that the government owns and nationalize the oil industry so we too can have cheap gas. Only one problem.... our economy is still reeling. Stock market is still tumbling. Unemployment is still going up. Mandatory health care for all with stiff penalties for anyone who opts out. Hope is dwindling and Obama's ratings are falling. "

Bush, his dad, Cheney and a whole hose of others are responsbile for our excessive dependence on gas and gas guzzlers. It is certainly not Obama. "

" Yup, heard today it is $73 a barrel.
Besides the oil situation. Why is a place like Arizona which should be a leader in solar energy doing next to nothing.
    The leader? Germany?
    Don't get me started..
Why is 80% of goods at Walmart from China? Experts claim cheap goods will quit be imported if fuel hits $6 bucks a gallon.
Just seems easier to make it here in the first place.
    But nooooooo way to logical.
    HELP! "

" I'm curious to know if anyone else saw Donald Trump on the news last night state that the world is awash in oil. He was attacking OPEC saying they need to be stopped. That they are the ones that want oil to cost 70 dollars a barrel even though there is no shortage of the stuff. That OPEC is setting the price.

Why aren't we using our own oil instead of paying someone else for it? There is no logical reason for us to pay someone else for oil when we have huge supplies here. Politics....... "

" Yeah, Tim..thanks for the reminder.
It's customary gas prices go up Memorial Day, peak at July 4th and down at Labor Day just as Summer vacation driving season ends.
Happens every year, no matter who is in office.
It's corporation's controlling prices; supply and demand markets not administrations. "

Troops pulling out of major Iraq cities today.
    Still "W" fault.
Remember Obama voted no on the war.
Gallon of gas in Iraq and Iran? Five cents a gallon..
Number of right wing extremists in America that still support Bush even after all this? To many ! "

Encourage creation of gasoline and diesel from coal, like the Germans did 60 years ago. It’s not any cleaner, but it doesn’t pollute any more either. "
