EAC breaks ground for new nursing building

The Eastern Arizona College Governing Board broke ground June 17 for the 15,651-square-foot nursing education building that will be constructed near the corner of Railroad Street and College Avenue.
The $2.5 million building, to be constructed by RBG Construction of Glendale, will accommodate 120 nursing students. Construction is expected to take 12 months.
The new facility is needed because the EAC nursing program has outgrown its lab, which was designed to serve up to 20 students, in the Math/Science Building. College officials say about 60 students enroll in the nursing program each year.
The college will use its own financial resources, so there will be no bond issue or other financial instrument needed to pay for the building.
The new facility will include a simulated hospital ward where students can practice new skills. Other features include a computer lab, faculty offices, two classrooms and a dining area.
The exterior of the building will be made of red brick to match nearby Student Services and Academic Programs buildings.
