Laren Ellsworth, 44, of Show Low was working on a roof at a residence on Second Street in Thatcher when he reached to pick up a piece of wood and lost his footing shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday was the first day this month with any measurable rain in an otherwise dry Monsoon season.
Witnesses at the scene said Ellsworth suffered multiple fractures to his leg, and he was taken to meet a helicopter at the Thatcher town park. The helicopter airlifted Ellsworth to the University Medical Center in Tucson, and he was listed as being in fair condition as of Friday, according to a UMC public information officer.
