The AIA power points system determines seeds for the state playoffs, and wins in the final game of the season will be important for the playoff lives of many teams.
Thatcher (4-5) is in desperate need of a win over Morenci (6-2) on Friday if it wants to compete in the state playoffs.
The 3A rankings are a mess. For some reason, the AIA only counts seven games for each team toward power points, which means many of the teams won’t play that seventh game until Friday.
This has resulted in a lot of ties in the standings. As of today, there is a four-way tie for first place.
Safford (6-3) is at No. 11 and plays Globe on Friday. The top eight teams receive a first-round home game in the playoffs.
