CLUFF RANCH
Cluff Ranch is scheduled to be stocked this week with rainbow trout. A new fishing pier has been installed that should provide a large increase in access for shore anglers. For lake information call (928) 485-9430.
There are no recent reports of success. The lake is down a bit due to problems with the pumps on the well. For lake information call (928) 428-6760. The lake is scheduled to be stocked with trout the second week of November.
DANKWORTH POND
Sunfish are biting in the early morning before the day begins to heat up. Aquatic vegetation continues to be a problem for anglers. For lake information call (928) 428-6760.
FRYE MESA RESERVOIR
Anglers continue to have the best success when fishing the early hours around sunrise on small lures silver in color.
ROOSEVELT
For bass, work main-lake points with Carolina rigs tipped with watermelon worms. Also try dropshots and Robo worms. Top-water action has been rare. Crappies are starting to move into open water. Look for them in large schools in the Salt River end near School House point and Wye Cove. Try trolled minnows as well as John Deere green and black-blue-chartreuse combo jigs for best results.
APACHE
Lots of small walleyes have been found in the lake, the result of a plant two years ago. The Crabtree area is good for yellow bass as well as smallmouth and largemouth bass. Good smallmouth fishing has been reported while using spinners and small crankbaits.
BIG LAKE
Fishing is good, with rainbows and cutthroats being caught, although windy conditions this past weekend made it challenging to fish at times. Boat ramps are accessible. Anglers are catching rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout. Some nice-sized, (up to 6 pounds), rainbow trout have been caught near the store. During the mornings and evenings, elk are routinely bugling.
Try worms, Power Bait, corn, and salmon eggs; lures such as spinners (Mepps, Rooster Tail, Panther Martin); Super Dupers, Z-rays, KastMasters, Crickhoppers (yellow and orange) and Rapalas; and flies such as wooly worms, wooly buggers, Yeager buggers, semiseal leeches, peacock ladies and nymphs in black, brown or green. Boat anglers are catching trout using cowbells with an attached lure, fly or worm. Shore anglers should try yellow or green Power Bait, salmon eggs and night crawlers. Trout are hitting bright-colored lures or flies. Trout are being caught in shallow areas of the lake.
SAN CARLOS
Crappies are plentiful near the dam, and anglers continue to pick up some huge bass. Launching is terrible (four-wheel-drive is highly recommended) and the lake is 2-percent full, so boaters need to go slow.
