The game was supposed to be a blowout, and it was. The Bulldogs crushed the Tigers 48-0 on Senior Night.
Heading into the playoffs on a high note was significant for Safford.
The Bulldogs took a 28-0 lead into halftime and pulled their starters after the first two series in the third quarter.
Everyone on Safford’s roster received playing time, and seniors made some big plays in the last game of their career in front of the home crowd.
Zach Garcia (111) and Manny Morales (61) accounted for 172 of Safford’s 234 rushing yards.
Both had rushing touchdowns, and Garcia also returned an interception for a score.
In his first year as head coach, Walker finished the regular season with a 7-3 record.
“I feel really good. The first team (you coach) is really special,” Walker said. “It’s been a great year.”
Safford’s defense forced five turnovers and was excited to record its first shutout of the year.
The Bulldogs are the No. 11 seed for state and will head to Tucson to take on No. 6 Empire (9-1) on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
