Tom Scott was right on with posthumous dissertation

Editor:

Tom Scott is right on with that posthumous dissertation. However, there is an unstated undertone that hints at the reasons that precipitated the morass in which we now find our (once great) nation. I believe that Tom recognized the futility of detailing these reasons, as do I; ergo, he did not do so. For anyone interested in the development of this topic, there is no better source than the works of the late Richard Mitchell.

Enough of that; I fear that I am about to begin a fruitless diatribe.

Now, does anyone remember the nonpareil faculty at Thatcher High School in the late '50s? Jack Daley was superintendent, and the faculty (mostly young) consisted of Tom Scott, Fenton Taylor, Dalton Overstreet, Jack Patton, Ray Gardner, Emily Philpott, Dan Forrest, Yours Truly and a couple of others. Very fond memories. (That's a sentence fragment, but who cares?)

" Gee Bwana as I reread Tom Scott's writings, as well as Gary's no mention was made about slavery. Seems that fundamental was abolished so very long ago. Go back to the ganja. You are much better with that "fundamental." "

    " Gary,
My last reference to your dad was this:
"...your dad, a war hero and all around great guy..."

    Kim,
Gary put up those beliefs for critical review when he posted them in the paper. If you don't want to be scrutinized then keep it private.

    Russ,
Nothing is more fundamental to Colonial America than slavery. It is an example of why 'keeping the fundamentals', as a blanket statement, is not such a good idea. There are other fundamentals that should be left behind as well....Perhaps if Gary was more specific, we could judge them individually. "

" We can argue about both sides of fundamentals all day; your point about slavery is well taken. You know as well as I, that is not what he was referring to when he spoke of fundamentals.
I don't expect you to change your mind because of his "celebrity endorsement", but I would ask that you not refer to him or any other veteran who served thier country as an "old dead guys". I'm quite sure they have earned the right to that much respect. "

" Bwana- I don't recall Gary or his father mentioning anything about slavery. You don't like the issues fine. Don't dilute by adding to the mix that which was never there to begin with. You have lost your credibility. "

" First off, DOCTOR Thomas Scott, is not an old dead guy. He is a loved member of his late community, not to mention a beloved member of our family. As for his beliefs, leave them be. Don't speak for those you don't know, and don't degrade those who have left us. Gary is right, we know little of his accomplishments from him, only from our own research. He was an insightful person, who only wished to share his beliefs and EDUCATE those in our community (about EVERYTHING!!!!) Just ask his students in Bowie, Thatcher, Pima, EAC,NAU and many other institues. "

    " So Gary,
You wish to validate your conservative political tenets by pointing out that your dad, a war hero and all around great guy, held the same beliefs. Sort of like a celebrity endorsement of the good ol' days...
We the people are looking forward to a brighter, smarter future; and the only way to achieve that is to be wise enough to recognize that some of those beloved fundamentals are/were actually the wrong way to go. Slavery for instance, was once a fundamental of this country until we the people abolished it. "

If wasn''t my intention to honor my father, just to share what he felt was at the root of some(not all) of the problems we find ourself in as a nation. I don't expect you to agree with it, but if would be nice if you were not so callous in your references to him.
By the way, his honor speaks for itself; he was a great father, husband, teacher and friend to many. If that doesn't do anything for you then go out and look at his miltitary gravemaker (cont) "

Get an education fool, marijuana doesn't cause brain damage, but alcohol sure does! Maybe you should spend less time in the Bull Pen and more time in the library. "

I know you mean to honor your Dad and all that, but don't expect everyone to line up and salute just because you invoke his memory.

PS....What I mean is that your dad is much wiser now that he is one with the creator....That's just my belief, you don't have to accept it if you don't want to. "

    " Mr. Lowe,
Thanks for your comments and reminiscing of the good old days at Thatcher High; dad had fond memories of those years. We should get together for lunch at El Charo sometime; maybe we can get Dalton to join us? Once again, thanks for your support. "

Winter is coming abd she has a hard time getting around. The decent thing for me to do would be to euthanize her.......hmmmm maybe we can get a two for one special, give it some thought. You could find out if dad changed his mind. Have a spectacular day bwana. "

As for the ganja remark...I am too old to enjoy smoking that stuff, but I believe that the right to the pursuit of happiness should include liberating marijuana use for adults. "

Some advice to Bwana: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. (That is directed at you, Bwana). "

I was in your advanced algebra class. Yes, I remember all the faculty you mentioned, and believe that I had classroom time with all of them. Ms. Philpott in the library. It was a good time to be in high school. Thanks for your efforts.

" Bwana- That's your problem you tend not to think. Yes Tom Scott has passed on (and he was a truly remarkable man) and you speak as though you are his voice. His son Gary and the rest of the family and a few close friends can only offer the insights of Tom's mind now that you can not grasp. Sorry Bwana stick to what you can grasp. The fact that you can't use the ganja and it makes you very mad. "

I tend to think that they have all most certainly changed their minds since then...So they no longer agree with you! "
