Swift Trail to close Nov. 15

Published on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 9:53 AM MST

The upper portion of State Highway 366 known as the Swift Trail will officially close for the winter at midnight Nov. 14.

This closure occurs approximately one-half mile beyond the Shannon Campground at the end of the pavement and applies only to motorized vehicles.

Hikers, cross-country skiers, mountain bikes and other nonmotorized users may continue beyond the locked gate. This closure will remain in effect until at least April 15, 2010, and potentially longer depending on snow conditions.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Transportation may close the lower portions of the Swift Trail during snow-plowing operations.

The closures are temporary, and the highway will reopen as soon as ADOT has cleared the road of snow.

This closure is a part of Forest Service compliance with the Arizona-Idaho Conservation Act of 1988.
