In the spring of 1943, Ellen met Alfred Rietz. They courted for three months and were married June 5 that year. To this union were born two children, Carol and Rosie. Together, Ellen and Alfred owned and operated Rietz Furniture Store in Clifton. In 1953, Ellen and Alfred suffered the loss of their youngest child, Rosie. Ellen and Alfred continued to operate the furniture business until liquidation in 1978.

Soon thereafter, they relocated to the Gila Valley, residing in Thatcher. Ellen and Alfred enjoyed their retirement and could often be found fishing at Luna Lake, traveling and spending much time their family. In January 1992, Alfred went to be with the Lord. Following Alfred’s passing, Ellen continued to travel to various destinations with her family. She reveled in cooking for family and embroidering. Ellen passed away October 27, 2009, at her daughter’s residence in Safford.
