SEACUS will sponsor a workshop entitled "Managing Your Medication Dollars" on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m.-noon, at Eastern Arizona College's Activities Center.

Open enrollment for Medicare begins Nov. 15. For those who are not satisfied with their current plan, now is the time to change. Medicare has changed its eligibility criteria for the low-income subsidy program. People who were not eligible before may now be eligible.

Grace Maricio, Medicare SHIP counselor from the SEACUS Area Agency on Aging, will be available to help individuals with their open enrollment. Those who come to receive help with open enrollment must bring a list of all of their current prescriptions, including dosages. Those who want med sheets can pick them up at the SEACUS office at 624 W. Main Street in Safford.

Kyle Clonts from the Safeway Pharmacy will conduct a presentation on all the resources available to help pay for medication.

Will Clark from the Thriftee Pharmacy will be available for private consultations. He asks that community members bring their prescriptions to the event. He will review the medications and make sure there are no duplicated prescriptions or prescriptions that have adverse reactions with each other and advise if there are generics available to replace the more expensive name-brand prescriptions.

Denise Benton with the Social Security Administration will be on hand to answer questions. The resource eligibility criteria for Social Security benefits have changed. People who were not previously eligible because of the resources may now be eligible. The SSA has also mailed letters to current participants. If they have questions regarding these letters, Benton may be able to answer them.

Valery Williams from the Veterans Administration will also be there to answer questions about benefits.

Other resources will be available for the elderly population, including vitals. Those interested in attending may register by calling SEACUS at 428-3229.
