Pete Montoya

Pete "Gabby" L. Montoya, 71, was born April 24, 1938, in Clifton and passed away Oct. 8, 2009, in Clifton.

Gabby was raised on Shannon Hill and was a proud Clifton Trojan. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1956. Following graduation, Gabby joined the U.S. Navy and served a four-year term. After serving his country, he returned to his hometown of Clifton, where he married Raquel (who passed away in 1986).

He worked for and retired from Phelps Dodge Corporation. During his life, Gabby enjoyed all sports and volunteered his time to the baseball and softball organizations in the community.

In 1994, he married Evangeline, who was drawn to his wonderful personality. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the company of everyone. He will be greatly missed by all.

His father, Pedro; mother Elvira; and son Steven preceded him in death.

Gabby leaves behind his wife, Evangeline; his two daughters, Diana (Juan) and Donna (Pancho); his two step-children, Robert (Sandra) and Valerie (Fudi); his two brothers, David and Bobert (Charlotte); his two sisters, Herminia and Arlene; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gabby's life was celebrated with a rosary and Mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in his beloved Clifton on Oct. 17, 2009.
