Members of community thanked for help with veteran van

Editor:

I'm writing to express our greatest appreciation to business owners and individuals who have made Safford their home and given from their souls.

These loving, caring, sharing people have decided to do for others as a result of their earned, self-determined and self-developed goodness.

We had a need of a van to take our disabled veterans back and forth to the Veterans Hospital in Tucson, and one was donated by Barney Motors here in town. As it turned out, this 1999 Chevy Astro van needed parts and supplies to make it operable and reliable, and Safford business people threw their hat into the project just because they were notified of this problem.

I wish to thank Big O Tires for supplying a battery and terminals. I want to thank NAPA on Highway 70 for supplying shock absorbers to cure the wandering of this van.

I want to say "thank you" to Home Depot for supplying a fire extinguisher and a road tool kit for emergencies. I want to thank Wal-Mart for a first aid kit, which, hopefully, will never be needed. I want to thank the American Legion Riders for all of the effort they have put into this project as well as the good they do for all of us without hesitation.

Kempton Chevrolet is adjusting the bands on the transmission to make it reliable.

I want to say "thank you" to Keith and George, who are volunteer drivers who operate at their own expense. They deserves all of the trust, respect and appreciation we can give. This van has asked for $25 donations per rider, but as it turned out, if a person did not have this, they rode for free.

I want to express my respect and appreciation for Mayor Ron Green, who has, at every request, assisted anyone who needs something in his area of expertise.

Also a heartfelt “thank you” goes to Valerie, Charlotte and Jerry, Arizona Department of Veterans Services employees who can be contacted for rides and veterans services at 928-428-3403. They have been super to work with over time and our respect is earned.

These are the honorable and sharing people we want to share our lives with, and, hopefully, we can be of service to them at some time.
