Noise laws ignored by carnival at county fair

Editor:

I doubt if the Graham County Fair sponsors will be soliciting feedback on the 2009 County Fair, but I would be submitting that it sucked, and I could have enjoyed my times there much more if it had not been for that noisy carnie ride at the north end of the grounds with the very loud "Boom! Boom! Boom!" of the sub-woofer bass speakers that shouldn't have been allowed to spew that much noise.

We have laws (noise ordinances) in this county, and they were being ignored (as usual), which is much the same with the lighting laws ignored by owners and regulators alike.

" I live near enough to the Fair to hear the screams of delight, laughter & music. I can even smelll the fried foods. In the quiet early morning hours I can hear the cows and other animals. The colored bright lights shine into my windows. Thank God for all my senses! I love it! All that joy at my doorstep! "

" Yes, the carnival music has always been obnoxious, but it didn't used to involve bass sub-woofers I the past.
Perhaps Jim is upset about the boom-boom noise at the Fair because he has to listen to the rolling boom-boxes in town and at home all the time. I know we are. "

" The fact of the matter is Graham County does not have a noise ordinance. Individual towns and cities in the county have such laws but they vary and cannot be enforced outside the individual cities limits. The police are not ignoring the law, they simply cannot enforce a rule that does not exist. "

" Carivals yes ... a day or so of noise doesn't hurt anyone ...

Railroads another story ... Move to Clifton and enjoy the never ending blaring horns, squealing wheels, humping of railcars from midnight until 3am ... only to be replaced by another set of the same from 8am to who knows when ... Let's not forget the blocked crossovers ...

    Have a wonderful day!. "

" Sorry to hear the fair was such a drag for you but there's a reason why the biggest crowd stands at that end of the fair. It's for the music. It's great. A better complaint would be about the price of the rides. OMG! "
