Registered voters who reside in Safford will be able to carry out their constitutional right to vote Tuesday and help elect new leaders for the city's government.

Safford will hold its city government elections at the Phelps Dodge Room at the Safford City-Graham County Library from the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Voters must present one acceptable form of photo identification or two acceptable forms of nonphoto identification.

Acceptable forms of photo identification include a driver's license, a state identification card, a tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification or a valid United States federal, state or local government-issued identification.

Acceptable forms of non-photo identification include a utility bill or bank statement dated within 90 days of the election, property tax statement, Arizona vehicle registration, tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification, vehicle insurance card or any valid United States federal, state or local government-issued identification including a voter identification card issued by the county recorder.

For the first time in more than a decade, the incumbent mayor will not be running for re-election. Instead, there is a three-way race between Bruce Barton, Steve Bingham and Chris Gibbs for the honor to be Safford's next mayor.

In the race for council seats, incumbents Richard Ortega and Danny Smith are running for re-election, and challengers Mary Bingham, Arnold Lopez and Gene Seale are vying to be elected as well. Councilor Jerry Hancock is not running to keep his appointed seat.

That means there are five candidates for three available positions.

" Looks like about 4000 voters in Safford forgot to vote. Shame on you. Now keep you mouth shut about anything that happens. "
