SAFFORD — Debbie Walton, owner of Medicap pharmacy, said her main ambition in becoming a pharmacist and opening her own pharmacy was helping people in finding the best and safest way to manage their health.

"Helping people is why I got into this business, and I don't know anything I'd rather be doing," Walton said.

Walton purchased the pharmacy franchise in 1997 and has since spent countless hours working behind the counter in nearly every faction as needed. Though a handful of family members have helped out when circumstances required it, Walton and her highly qualified crew of employees run the front and back areas of the business. Walton is the only full-time pharmacist on staff, though the business also employs two part-time pharmacists.

Medicap is unique in that it offers delivery service free of charge — within a certain radius — to patients in need, as well as compounding of medications in nearly any way needed by the customer, Walton said.

As an employer, Medicap offers on-the-job training for pharmacy technicians that qualify under state licensing requirements. She warned, however, that since providing the highest-quality service to her customers is her primary focus, she seeks to bring the most trustworthy and qualified individuals to her business.
