Arturo M. Sanchez, 83, of Safford (Clifton) entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, Sept. 15, 2012, in Tucson from a long-term illness.

Arturo was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Clifton to Francisco and Vicenta Sanchez. He went to school in Clifton, served his country four years in the Merchant Marines, came back and married Lupe Lopez of Solomon. He raised his family in Morenci while working 37 years for Phelps Dodge.

Arturo and Lupe retired in Verde Lee for several years, and he moved to Safford after Lupe preceded him in death in 1996.

Arturo loved military and American history, Western novels, debating national and local politics; he collected antiques of all kinds and enjoyed the outdoors.

Arturo was married to Lupe for 42 years. He is survived by his children, Cleo Martha Sanchez of Safford, Frank Sanchez of Tucson, Stella Fernandez (Tony) of Clifton, Victor Sanchez (Christie) of Thatcher, Olga Lopez (Bob) of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Armando M. Sanchez (Jenny) of California; niece Connie M. Sanchez of Clifton; and many others.

Special thanks to Mike and Tamere Kenehan of Safford.

Arturo will be missed and remembered by all of his family.

Arrangements were under the direction of Vining Funeral Home.
