Fort Thomas baseball ends season, looks to rebuild

“It took us a while to get going and today was our eighth game in 14 days and I think our kids were a bit worn out and tired,” said Diaz. Seven of the games were on the road.

“Overall, we had a great season. We have grown, we learned and improved and are learning the game of baseball. We have something to build on.”

The Apaches will graduate Cody Cheney, Tyler Black and Anthony Bonilla.

“I take my hat off for the seniors because they brought a lot of leadership and were being mentors to the younger kids – not just with baseball but they took that role and helped our team become better,” Diaz said.

The Apaches finished the season 3-15 but compete in the toughest 1A region with five teams ranked in the top 10, including No. 1 Hayden. With nine freshmen this season, Diaz said Fort Thomas has a bright future in the coming seasons.
