MORENCI — Greenlee County will play host to the Arizona Supreme Court early this December.
The state’s high court will arrive in Greenlee County on Dec. 5 and set up court at Morenci High School on Dec. 6 to hear oral arguments on a case before the court.
The Supreme Court routinely travels the state, hearing cases in high schools because, according to the court, “This outreach enriches the students’ educational experience and gives the community an opportunity to experience the workings of the state's highest appeals court.”
High School Principal Bryan Boling told the Copper Era via e-mail that Greenlee County Superior Court Judge Monica L. Stauffer was instrumental in bringing the justices to Morenci.
Duncan High School students have also been invited to attend.
“They will start letting students into the event in our multipurpose room at 8:45 a.m. The hearing will start at 10 a.m.,” Boling said.
