Bruce Shuck was the winner of the 2020 Festival of Lights competition.

The Town of Clifton is sponsoring its Festival of Lights again this year and Town Clerk Espie Castaneda is reminding folks to sign up for a shot at a cash prize.

Because Chase Creek is still torn up due to infrastructure work, businesses are ineligible this year, but the town is offering a $300 first place prize to residents who wow the judges, Castaneda said. The second place winner will earn $200 and the third $100.

The Festival of Lights began last year when COVID-19 prevented the town from hosting its normal festivities and the decision was made to hold it again this year because so many residents are still ill with the virus, she said.

This year participants will receive a number to help judges identify their favorite holiday-themed homes, Castaneda said.

There were 20 participants last year with the first place winner being Bruce Shuck. Manny and Grace Gastelum took second place and John and Josie Provencio came in third.

“We’d like to see a large number of participants light up the town for the season,” Castaneda said. “Since we can’t get together this is a way to still show our community spirit.”
