After taking a year off because of COVID-19, Roger Munoz and his band students will once again be bringing the sounds of the season back to the Morenci High School stage.

The Morenci Pride Wind Ensemble will be playing Dec. 13 as will Fairbanks Middle School’s beginning, intermediate and advanced bands, said Munoz, the Morenci Unified School District’s director of bands.

Roughly 100 kids have spent the last several weeks preparing for the 60 minute event, Munoz said.

“We’ll perform all sorts of great things,” Munoz said. “The theme is ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.’”

Among the songs people can expect to hear are “Jingle Bells,” “Up on the Housetop” and “Winter Wonderland.”

“The kids are going to go all out with decorating the stage, it’s going to look really beautiful,” Munoz said.

Although disappointed the younger students won’t be able to perform with the older students because of the virus, Munoz said the kids have been talking non-stop about the event.

“We’re extra excited because we haven’t been able to do this in quite awhile,” he said.
