The vice president of a Tucson welding and fabrication has released a statement regarding last week’s death of an employee at Freeport-McMoran’s Morenci mine.
“It is with great sadness that PVB Fabrications, Inc. reports the death of a valued and loved team member at the Morenci Mine. The accident occurred on the morning of Sept. 15, 2021, when an employee was working on welding a stainless steel pipe,” Tony Sharpe said Wednesday. “The identity of the employee is not being released to protect the privacy of the family. Safety remains the number one priority at PVB Fabrications. The company is cooperating with state and federal agencies during the investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends impacted by this tragic event.”
Sharpe declined to provide any additional information Thursday morning on the accident, which is being investigated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
